Why You Must Keep Growing

"Who I’ve been is not as important as who I’m becoming."
“Who I’ve been is not as important as who I’m becoming.”

Awesome moment yesterday at RCCG Liberty Youth Church where I enjoyed God’s presence with wonderful undergraduates young people who were eager to know God’s purpose for their relationships. During the questions and answers session, I got this question from one of them. “Sir, some people are born to be great even more than their partners, what should such people do in case their partners are unwilling to accept their greatness?”

I gave a direct answer that people who keep growing cannot stop others from growing to their greatness. I went further to answer the question in details which I won’t discuss here since this is not the focus of this article.

But my concern is the need why we must keep growing as it relates to the question I was asked. Here are few reasons why you must keep growing.

1) Our Growth affects Others

People who are not growing are minus to those who are willing to grow. People who are committed to growth creates right environment for others to keep growing.

2) Growth determines Greatness

Everyone has potential for greatness but everyone cannot be great because growth is a price all of us must pay to access greatness and many people are not willing to pay the price (See Luke 1:80, 2:40).

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
– Maya Angelou

3) Growth motivates

Continual growth with notable results of rich experiences serves as personal motivation and helps those who follow our leadership to be encouraged in striving for growth.

4) Growth sustains character

Character flaws, scandals and some shameful acts are as a result of inability to keep growing. Long-term growth sustains, preserves and protects character. Growing inwardly helps us maintain integrity and spirituality.

5) Growth makes you feel good about yourself

John Patrick once said, “When you know you can do something, and you feel good about yourself, you do not have to devalue others.” If you are growing everyday you will feel good about yourself everyday and you will make others to feel good about growing to their greatness.

I challenge you to keep growing. It’s something we must never stop doing, even when people around us are not comfortable or refuse to grow, we must keep growing. When people stop growing they start dying no matter how young or healthy they are.

Keep growing!
