Effectiveness in leadership begins the journey of leadership greatness.
People are in desperate need of effective leaders. Growing your leadership capacity demands personal effectiveness. Being effective is the ability to do the right thing at all times, no matter the cost.
Sound character, integrity, purity, high ethical and moral standards are foundations of effectiveness in leadership.
Effectiveness in leadership also involves knowing yourself.
You must have understanding of your area of strength and weakness in order to bring out your best. One of the helpful lessons I have learnt in leadership is the need to appreciate my strength zone and then lead from there.
This understanding helps you to leverage on the strength of others and to appreciate their uniqueness. Each time I remember that I have weaknesses where others are strong; it makes me realize that effective leadership is not about the man at the top.
It is about a group of people working together from their various strength zones through a visionary leader to achieve the common goal.
How much of yourself do you know? This is a question about self-awareness. You have to know yourself before you can lead others effectively.
Only the leaders who possess this self-awareness skill are likely going to find leadership simplified.
Billie Jean King said, “I think self-awareness is probably the most important thing towards being a champion.”
As leaders, our effectiveness starts by knowing who we are before we go ahead to understand people.
