One striking point in the last post that I can’t just seems to overlook is that, Potential means nothing if you don’t do anything with it. What we do with our potential determines what becomes the outcome of our lives. Many people believe we need to focus on improving our performance but the truth is, we should focus on developing our potential. When we unlock our potential we automatically improve our performance in life.
It is a denial of the divinity within us to doubt our potential and our possibilities
– James Faust
How can we unlock our potential to maximize our performance? Simple. The thumb rule: shift of focus. In other words, don’t think of yourself in terms of your performance anymore but in terms of your potential.
Shift focus from performance to potential. Don’t dwell so long in the land of performance – continue your journey to discovering more about yourself. There’s a better you undiscovered yet. Potential is never a destination, it is a journey of unlimited discoveries about great things you are yet to explore in the special abilities and endowments given to you by God. Potential will keep reminding you that there’s always more to be released inside you.
Shift focus from arriving to exploring. Don’t settle in the land of arrival. God wants you to become not your best but His best for you. Settling for becoming your best is focusing on arriving at a point where you will think that is all you can be. But when your focus is to keep exploring, searching to know all that God has in stock for you, it is difficult to arrive too early.
Shift focus from competing with others to competing with yourself. The best person to compete with on earth is yourself. I settled that long ago that I was not going to compare myself to anyone but against myself. The reason is that I have been given my own potential, my own assignment, my own path and I’m not going to give account of what I did with what God gave me to anyone except God. I therefore have to know that God will not ask me why I didn’t become someone else – that I have competed with. But He will surely ask me why I didn’t become the original “ME” that He made and endowed with such great potential.
Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.
– William Faulkner
I like to encourage you to unlock your potential to maximize your own performance in life by shifting your focus from…
- Performance to Potential
- Arriving to Exploring
- Competing with others to Competing with Yourself
