The Habits of Self-Discipline

There are no champions anywhere who continues to win without the habit of discipline. Many have lost great honour in life because they departed from the way of self-discipline.

“No steam or gas drives anything until it is confined. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.” (Harry Emerson)

Richard Foster in his book, Celebration of Discipline says, “The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people.”

The root cause of most human failures is lack of self-discipline. The first call to a true disciple of Jesus is the call to self discipline, “Without discipline, there’s no life at all” (Katharine Hepburn).

I will not be ashamed to mention that at one time in my life, I nearly entered into a pit of moral collapse because I refused to heed the earnest call to self-discipline.

Even though the act was not committed and I cried to God for mercy, the Lord told me that I have lost my honour before whom I have displayed lack of self-discipline that was highly expected from me.

The Proverb says, “He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.” The way of discipline is the Holy Spirit’s method of putting our lives under a check so that we can maintain our crown and honour in life.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” – Jim Rohn

Self-discipline is the fruit of the spirit which the Bible calls self-control in Galatians 5:23. It is the ability to say NO to the demand of the flesh, nailing all natural evil desires to the cross of Christ and crucify them there.

Self- discipline means we are under the control of the Holy Spirit at all times. It means we are living by the Holy Spirit’s power

Self-discipline is the pathway of winners. The way to maintain our stand in God and to remain useful to lives we have been sent to help.

Self-discipline is the way of Power. When discipline is lost – Power dissipates.

It is the way of honour. Whenever we allow our untamed natural passions to overrule our spirit – HONOUR IS SOLD CHEAPLY TO THE ENEMIES.

It is the way of Effectiveness. We continue to remain effective so long as we endure in self-discipline. No one is USEFUL AGAIN who has allowed the indulgence of self above its boundary.

It is the way of Peace. Our peace comes from PROPER use of our lives. Correct lifestyle of purposeful and disciplined living is the royal way to becoming our best for God.
