The Greatest Indispensable Quality of a Growing Leader

Posted on Posted in Leadership Development

It was John Kennedy who said leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. Every growing leader is a life long committed learner. In the school of growth, learning is a major course. The more you learn and applying them, the more you grow into becoming your best.

You can’t be a growing leader if you are not a tireless learner. The danger is, when leaders stop learning, it’s only a matter of time, they lose the power to lead effectively. Learning is the greatest indispensable quality of a growing leader. So, I like to share with you seven ways you can grow through learning.

1. Develop a Learning Heart

A learning heart is always open to every opportunity to become better today than yesterday. Robert Louis once said, “To hold the same views at forty as we held at twenty is to have been stupefied for a score of years, and take rank, not as a prophet, but as an non-teachable brat, well birched and none the wiser” Don’t allow a self-defeating heart posture that displays “I have become all that I can be.”

“What I believe is that all clear-minded people should remain two things throughout their lifetimes: Curious and teachable.”
― Roger Ebert

2. Be a Righteous Leader

If you are righteous and lead with righteousness, you will love to be taught and corrected, by that you will increase in learning and be a growing leader. The Scripture says in Proverbs 9:9, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.” So increase in learning comes to the righteous because he has a teachable spirit.

“Coachable people seek out those who speak truth to them, even if it is a painful truth, because it protects them and it makes them a better person and leader.”
― Gary Rohrmayer

3. Learning from God

Every growing leader is a student of God’s word. When you are always taught of God, you will always grow as a leader. Jesus said, “It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me (John 6:45). So, who are you learning from? It will go a long way to determine your growth as a leader.

“Without doubt, the mightiest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God, and the weightiest word in any language is its word for God.”
― A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy

I hope the words will profit your heart and make you a growing leader. Watch out for the part 2. God bless you.
