Every normal person is a thoughtful being. We are all made to be thoughtful in our approach to life – decisions, choices, planning and daily living. That’s why the moment we cease to be thoughtful; we begin to go spirally downward. It is our thoughtfulness about life that keeps us living a sane life.

THANKFULNESS IS THOUGHTFULNESS
Thoughtfulness produces thankfulness. Just like thoughtfulness is required to live a good life, thoughtfulness produces thankfulness in us. Thankfulness is to be full of thanks in expressing gratitude, and appreciation for certain benefits we have received or enjoyed in life. But we can only be thankful by being thoughtful. To be thankful is to be thoughtful of all the undeserved blessings we have been enjoying in the time past. To be thankful is to be thoughtful of where we are coming from compared to where we are today and to appreciate God for the positive changes we have experienced so far.
Thankfulness overcomes Worry. In the words of H.A. Ironside, “We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction.
Thankfulness is a command. The Bible says, we must be thankful (Colossians 3:15). It is not an advice or a suggestion; we are all commanded to be thankful. We sin every time we refuse to give thanks to God for all He’s doing in our lives. Ingratitude is a capital sin. The cause of man’s fall in Eden is first of all the sin of ingratitude. Adam and Even eat the forbidden fruit because they were ungrateful for that which God did for them. Ingratitude gave birth to discontent which led them into wanting what God said it was not meant for them. They failed to be thoughtful of all the benefits in the Garden; they gave attention to the contrary. They were not thankful and they lost the entire privileges. When the command of thankfulness is not obeyed, people lose their privileges.
Thankfulness positions us for more blessings. The elders have a saying where I come from that, “A child who shows appreciation for the blessings of yesterday, positions himself for more blessings today. Someone said, whatever we appreciate, appreciates. The more thankful we are, the more blessings we are going to enjoy.
Thankfulness reveals our character. Thankfulness shows the virtue of good character in us. It shows the character of humility, sincerity, honesty and faithfulness. Where thankfulness is lacking, character is lacking. And wherever character is lacking, chaos is eminent. The truth is that, we can never be punished for what we are thankful of. Thankfulness helps us make the best out of what we have been given.
Someone once said, “Life without thankfulness is devoid of love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in perception. Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road.” When we are thankful about life, we are going to make the best out of life. When we are thankful about our gifts and talents, we will surely maximize them to the fullest.
In this season of thanksgiving, how will you take time to think in order to show thanks to God and to people who have been of great blessings to your life and family?
