The race of life is not about how well you started. It is more about how well you will finish. One of the best books I ever read is from Steve Farrar, Finishing Strong. Someone said about finishing strong that those are two words that can create a powerful attitude for achievement in life, ministry, sport and business.
It is the desire of everyone to finish strong and to finish well in life. Just that we need something more than a desire to finish strong in whatever area we are thriving in life. One of the things we need is the understanding of the strategy from the forces that won’t allow us to finish well in life.
One major strategy we need to fight against is the “Wear – Out Strategy.
The wear – out strategy is the plan of action that is targeted to render great people of destiny useless. To get them tired and exhausted until they are not able reach the finishing line of their lives successfully. It is a process of wasting by attrition. The tactic to consume something useful before its time.
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High…” (Daniel 7:25)
We are in a time many are falling victim of this wear out strategy. Marriages are crumbling because couples are tired of themselves. They are worn out. Great ministries are packing up because devil is wearing out the pastors. Many believers are compromising in their faith because the enemy is achieving the wear out strategy on the church.
How Can You Overcome the Wear Out Strategy?
We must overcome the wear out strategy if we desire to finish strong in the journey of life. I like to share with you how you can overcome this strategy.
1. Understand Your Vulnerability
Many people are falling victim of this wear out strategy due to ignorance of their vulnerability. You must know that it is possible for you to be emotionally or spiritually wounded if you are not watchful. One of the reasons the wear out strategy is affecting people is due to deliberate opening of their lives to temptations and attacks of the devil.
2. Avoid the Tyranny of the Urgent
It is true we are in a microwave generation. We want everything to happen fast and quick. The virtue of waiting patiently has been lost to so call sense of urgency. Yet the Scripture is still clear as regards this matter. “But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall work and not faint or become tired” (Isaiah 40:31).
3. Lay Aside Heavy Weight on You
Many people are wearing out because of excessive luggage they are carrying on their lives. There’s limit to the load you can carry on your head if you don’t want to wear out. God has not made us to carry loads beyond our capacities. That’s why He made provision for a burden bearer – Jesus – Who is always willing to bear our burdens (Matthew 11:28). It is your responsibility to go and put your load upon Him so that you may find rest unto your soul.
4. Get the Right Mind
Wrong mind makes a wrong life. Let the mind of Christ be in you (Philippians 2:5). Don’t try to live to make an impression on anyone. Accept God’s provision for your life. Don’t live or act beyond the measure of the Grace of Christ upon your life.
5. Avoid the ‘only saint left’ Conclusion
It is more encouraging to keep firing on when you know you are not the only one that is still standing for God. You are empowered and can cheer yourself on when you know many others are also standing with you. But the moment you begin to think no one is faithful to God again except only you, you have become vulnerable to wear out strategy of the enemies. You will begin to loose strength and motivation. The courage begins to dwindle and this can be dangerous to your finishing strong.
6. Keep Your Eyes Fixed on Christ
It is dangerous to look away from the source of your strength if you must finish strong. Don’t allow anything to get you distracted from focusing on Christ. There’s always a renewed strength in focus. Don’t be distracted. Focus on Christ.
7. Spend More Time with God Everyday
As simple as it may appear, the strength we all need to overcome wear out strategy lies in our constant fellowship and communion with God through His word and prayer. The closer you are to God every day, the stronger you become every day.
Above all…Finish Strong…Overcome the Wear Out Strategy. Remember, “We rate ability in men by what they finish, not by what they attempt”
