Getting the best out of reading requires mastery of it. When you master the art of reading, you are not only getting informed but you are achieving personal growth. The goal of reading is growth – and there must be a deliberate plan and action towards achieving it.
In my conversation with few people who have gained mastery in reading, there’s something they have in common that I like to share with you. I think it is the quick and simple way you can also master the discipline of reading.
The secret is: Be Intentional about Reading.
Reading to me is not an hobby. It is a discipline. It is the power of information that brings transformation. I don’t read because I like to read. It is what I MUST do if am going to stay at my vintage point. You can read last Wednesday’s post to understand how reading can change your life through vantage point.
“The quality of your commitments will determine the course of your life.” – Ralph Marston
If you are going to master reading, it must not be unintentional and accidental. You must be intentional about it. You must do it on purpose. It must be designed, calculated, preconceived and weighed-up.
Get yourself organized. Be deliberate about your goal of reading – what do you want to achieve, change, learn, know, correct, discover or re-discover? Any reading that is not deliberate can’t give a deliberate result. You have to be intentional about it.
Only those who are ravaged by reading gain mastery of reading
Intentional reading must be valuable to you because of the benefits reading gives but not without applying effort to it. I like you to make a deliberate decision to be intentional about reading from now. Let it be what you do on purpose. You can be rest assured that the values you will get will be more than the treasures of the ocean gathered together.
