" Don’t tell me, show me…Don’t talk the talk, but walk the walk. Taking action always begins with one simple act – making a decision. "

” Don’t tell me, show me…Don’t talk the talk, but walk the walk. Taking action always begins with one simple act – making a decision. “

Whether we like to agree with this or not, just like Jon Bieleeki said, “Your circle of influence dictates your path.” Whenever it comes to how we make decisions – whether good or bad, positive or negative – we do make them based on certain influences. The quality of our decisions in life cannot be better than the influence that produces them.

So, I like to share with you five different types of influence that determines how people make decisions in life – and take note, don’t count me out. I’m also part of the people.

1. INFLUENCE WITHIN YOU

The first influence that determines how and what decisions you make in life is what I called Influence Within You. Little wonder did some of us know how powerful the state of our hearts affect the qualities of our decisions. The Bible says we should guard our hearts with all diligence, because issues of life flow out of them (Proverbs 4:23). The more we improve the quality of our minds, renewing them from time to time by the word of God, the more the influence that affect our decisions from within us gets better

2. INFLUENCE ABOVE YOU

There’s influence above us which determines how we make decisions. By influence above, I mean divine, supernatural and spiritual influence. It is always an influence above us. There’s a need to be careful of what we permit to influence us from above. No influence outside what Holy Spirit gives should be permitted to influence our lives. We can always guarantee peace and rest of mind when we settle for, O Lord, Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth (Luke 11:3).

3. INFLUENCE AROUND US

We are not free from influence around us. We are only free to choose what we allow to be around us. Relationship and environment can make an influence that conditions our thinking, judgment and decisions. It is important that we are more careful in selecting what we permit to stay around us because it can become what will eventually influence the quality of our life decisions (1 Corinthians 15:33).

4. INFLUENCE BEHIND US

Past experiences hurts or heals. None of us reading this is without a kind of life we have lived in the past and probably left behind. But just like one of my native proverb says, The pounded yam of twenty years ago can still be hot in ones hand. In order words, the effect of the past can still have serious negative impact on the present. We just need to do one thing to control influence behind us – The secret is: Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before (Philippians 3:11). Freedom from the prison of the past comes through our forgetfulness of it and steady focus on the future.

5. INFLUENCE BEFORE US

In fact, I think we can say there is a link between what is behind and what is before us. The link is the person standing in-between. When you become forgetful of the past, you turn your back at it and that means automatic turning to face the future. Nothing enables wise decisions than being influenced by vision. Vision is simply seeing the invisible that lies ahead. Vision is laying hold on what is ahead. It is the freedom from bondage and burden of the past to reach unto the unexplored opportunities of the future. It is something I always like to call, the virgin beauty.

We all need influence before us to fulfill destiny. Jesus got it (Hebrews 12:2). Abraham got it (Hebrews 11:8-10). Champions in the profile of faith got it (Hebrews 11:13). Let me close with something common to all these: They seek a country…They seek…Be a seeker of the future…Be a seeker of heaven…Seeker of truth…Life and Eternity…Don’t settle with your past and your present. Be a seeker of the future. strive to be today than yesterday…Strive to become better tomorrow than who you are today.

Seek the Lord while He may be found and keep seeking Him even after you have found Him to know Him more…Don’t arrive now, it’s too early for you. There’s more to discover, more to achieve, more to know, more to accomplish for God in your lifetime. Be a seeker. It is the best influence that determines how we make decisions.
