CHAPTER THREE: THE ANCHOR OF GOD’S WORD

Posted on Posted in Personal Growth, Uncategorized

Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me…”Jeremiah 15:16
There is vast power in God’s word. The closer we are to God’s word, the greater our advantage to experience triumphant living. In this chapter we shall consider the advantages of getting close to God’s word. Most times, we may continue suffering unnecessarily over a situation which solution may be very close to us. But due to our illusion or ignorance of some certain benefits around us, we lose, suffer and being denied many wonderful things.
In every blocked road we may find ourselves, God has already prepared the way out. Although the way out may not necessarily be the exit out of the negative circumstance. Because, God, sometimes allow us to grow through life challenges in order to achieve his purpose meant for our own good. Obviously, He will eventually make way of escape for us. But His purpose and our pruning must have been achieved anyway.
For instance, no one will love to go through the fire those three Hebrew boys went through in Babylon (see Daniel 3:1-30). These young guys were people of like passion with us. They found themselves in a great dilemma, whether to bow to idols or be burned to ashes. It became a choice whether to compromise their faith or stand for God, and which its consequence may be drastic. Surprisingly, these guys vowed never to deny their God. They believed God is able to save them, somehow by quenching the fire or making sudden miracles to take place. I know they must have thought God would do something about the burning furnace – an escape from not going through the fire.
This happen to us sometimes as well, when we believe God is able to disallow our challenges from emerging, or we expect Him to create an exit immediately. This is what the prayers of many of us centre on – the prayer and faith of sudden escape. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work like that sometimes. Then, when these young guys decided never to worship the statue, the king decreed seven times increase of the furnace. Also, as we decide never to compromise our faith despite the consequence, the challenges may become seven times stronger. This may arise to test the strength limit of our faith. At the same time, it is at this point many throw away their confidence. When their challenges grow bigger than their faith, they will think they can’t hold to their faith anymore. They will turn back because challenges have outgrown their faith. But despite the increase of furnace, these guys maintained the statement which has always challenged my faith.
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, o king. But if not, be it known unto thee, o king that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou has set up” Daniel 3:16-18.
I wonder how many of us can have such unshakeable faith even at death. When we have the choice to compromise as the only way of escape, yet, we can boldly stand to declare that, “If God does nothing about this situation; I will still maintain my stand. I will not look for my personal way out. I will not submit to worldly suggestions.”These young guys did the same thing. They stood by their faith in God though it cost them going through the fire – but God was with them in the midst of their trials. The fire could not harm them. Three of them were bound and thrown inside the fire. Even, the people who threw them there were roasted by the flame.
As the king watched, something strange happened, the king stood up with amazement. Three men were bound and thrown inside the fire, but the king was seeing four people standing in the midst of fire without being hurt. He exclaimed, “Are their not three men thrown into the fire?”But I’m seeing four men standing.”And the appearance of the fourth man is like the son of God.”Immediately, he summoned these three young guys. They came out of the fire without even their hair touched by fire. Due to this, the king acknowledged the God of these guys as the only true God deserved to be worshipped. He then made a decree that anyone who will not worship this mighty God be punished.
My prayer for you is: no matter what you may be passing through now, God will be glorified in your life. The whole nation beginning from your family will serve God because of you. In your present circumstance, the fourth man will appear to rescue you. Those who are waiting to mock you will end up celebrating you. When gold passes through fire, it will be refined. It will begin to shine. Likewise, the best God have in store for you shall begin to manifest in your life from now. Your destiny will begin to shine as gold. You will never be put to shame in Jesus name!
You can have the same experience of supernatural glorification. Just as these three Hebrew men, the only thing you need is to hold unto God’s word. Do not waver in the face of serious pressure. When you honour God’s word above your circumstances, God will lift you above them. These young men held and honoured God’s word according to exodus 20:3-5,
“You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved – any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is
in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them…”
Their obedience made God to honour them – by honouring His word in their lives. It is a great beginning of all round victory when we know the secrets of triumphant living lies inside the pages of scriptures. Therefore, go for the word of God. You will never be disappointed.
GO FOR THE WORD OF GOD
God’s word has power over all circumstances of life. One thing devil cannot withstand is the word of God. People who have had great victories over the troubles of life were committed to God’s word. They lived and walked by it. Nothing took God’s word away from them – not even their challenges. They believed the word of God is settled forever in heaven. They knew victory does not come from men’s philosophy and that no educational degree can solve life problems. Only the application of God’s word gives the answer. It solves every problem of life. I want to say it again: go for the word of God. It is your arsenal in dealing with life issues. No matter what your challenges are, go for the word of God. Every blessing, promise, instruction you will find in it are meant for you. God has packaged the solution to your problems in His word. What to do in order to enjoy God’s best for your life were written long ago. There is no answer to any question in life you cannot find in God’s word. It is our greatest problem solving tool.
THE GREATEST PROBLEM-SOLVING TOOL
No book on earth solves problem as the Bible. When you get acquainted with it, your life must be transformed. There is no aspect of life it does not address. Your marriage, ministry, academics, health and career have answers in the scriptures. The word of God creates something from nothing. It restores losses of any kind. In the face of storms and troubles, God’s word brings peace and calmness. It brings revelation in the midst of confusion. It makes a way where no one will ever believe there can be a way. It has been solving the problems of many generations ago till now – and if you honour and hold unto it, the same word shall work in your life.
I want you to believe the power of God’s word. When you do, it will not only solve your problems or release God’s blessing to you. It will make you a man or woman of authority. It will empower you to be in charge of your circumstances. Whatever you bind here on earth shall remain bound in heaven. And anything you lose on earth is also loosed in heaven. This means that you are no longer at the mercy of your challenges. You have taken charge and now in control. This is the kind of a person God wants you to be – someone who can stand on God’s word against devices of the enemy.
Henceforth, I want you to lay hold on the word of God. Let it become part of you. Get close to it daily, study, ponder and meditate on it often. No matter the peculiarity of what you are passing through, God has solution for it. Your own duty is to search the scripture until you locate God’s word that address the situation and commit yourself to the application of what it says. As you apply it, continue to confess and establish your faith that what God says concerning you will come to pass. Many times, when some people lay hold on God’s word for a short time without any result, they will give up. You don’t have to give up over yourself. Keep standing on the word of God. Continue to speak the word over your situation. Let it settle in your heart that God’s word can never fail.
Remember what God says, “So also is my word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It shall accomplish all I want it to, and prosper everywhere I send it.” The word of God is a seed (Mark 4:14). It is capable of producing life fruits. It doesn’t miss target but always accomplish its purpose. God says His word prosper everywhere He sends it. So whenever you receive God’s word into your life, it prospers you. It turns your lack into abundance, sorrow to joy, and barrenness to fruitfulness. Wherever God’s word arrives, nothing can withstand its potency and power to cause a change. Likewise, whenever you send God’s word to accomplish a purpose, it will never return to you void. It will produce fruits for you, accomplish its purpose and prosper at where you sent it.
Sometime ago, a sister suddenly began to experience serious chest pain that affected her breathing. She went to the hospital and the doctor recommended an x-ray test. When she came back with the result, the doctor could not found anything wrong, but the pain persisted. She was treated and got relieved. After few months the pain returned. She called me on the phone and I prayed with her. The following morning, she called again that the pain was becoming more severe. I encouraged her to trust God for healing. After few minutes I dropped the phone, I remembered the word of God in Psalm 107:20, “He sent His word; it heals them and delivered them from their destruction.” So I took my phone and called her. I said to her that as God sent His word which healed and delivered His people from their destruction – the same way I’m sending God’s word to you for permanent healing and deliverance. The word went and prospered in her body, and came back to me with the accomplishment of healing. That was how God gave her victory over the pains.
Beloved, one of the things we need for triumphant living is our faith, obedience and commitment to acting the word of God. The word of God says, “If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established (Isaiah 7:9). This means you’re established in God by faith. Your marriage, business, finances, ministry can only blossom and become strong by your faith. It is the secret of good success and prosperous living. It gives conquest and victory over devil. You provoke the miraculous acts of God on you
r behalf as you believe in His word. God’s word is the perfect law of liberty for those who are committed to it. The scripture says, “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” I encourage you to give yourself to God’s word. Commit yourself to the practice of everything it says. Let your habit be like that of Jesus that said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Place value on feeding from spiritual food much more than the physical. Because what you feed often is what’s able to sustain you. As you desire God’s best for your life, see to it that you feed and nurture your spirit often with nourishments of God’s word.
There are many people who are going around with dead spirit. They don’t constantly nourish their spirit with the word of life. That is why they get confused, depressed, frustrated and defeated at any slight encounter of difficulties. To experience triumphant living, your spirit must always be fed with the word of God. This is because who gives life is the spirit. No matter how well you feed your flesh but ignore your spirit, your flesh will soon fail you (John 6:63).
Since you are a spirit, you can only feed your spirit with spiritual food – and word of God is the food. You know God is a Spirit. The word he speaks is also spirit and life. That is why whenever you sit and study God’s word; it is a communion of spirit to spirit. As you meditate on it, your spirit is receiving direct spiritual feeding that produces revelation and empowerment. In a short while, you will begin to have solutions in your spirit to some very difficult issues.
Your eyes become opened to some things which ordinarily have remained a puzzle. God will be able to communicate with you – so that as you take steps in that direction, testimonies will follow suit. That is why the Bible says, “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, these are sons of God.”(Romans 8:14). One of the ways to understand the leadings of the Holy Spirit is through God’s word. And the Holy Spirit does not speak with our flesh but our spirit. The Bible says, “The spirit Himself bear witness with our spirit (not our body) that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16 Paraphrased). So if you want to triumph in life, ministry, marriage and career – you must feed your spirit with God’s word. The greatest thing that can sustain you in the journey of life is a healthy spirit which is constantly nourished by the word of God. The scriptures tells us in Proverbs 18:14 that, “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?”
Henceforth, you should not study the Bible again just like any other books. Bible is the written word of God, and God’s word is life and spirit. That is why you need the Holy Spirit to help you for revelation, otherwise, your study will only produce you head knowledge which has no power to transform your life. You need spiritual knowledge for spiritual transformation. The reason many Christians who goes to church, read the Bible and still fall into errors often is because they only retain head knowledge of the Bible. They may go around confessing the word and yet, nothing will happen. To make God’s word produce miraculous effect in you requires the connection between your spirit and the spirit behind God’s word. Head knowledge has no life in it. In fact, it puffs up according to 1Corinthians 8:1. When the word is processed and settled in your spirit, that’s when it becomes a spiritual knowledge. Meanwhile, you need spiritual knowledge to handle both spiritual and physical problems of life, and God’s word is the key.
GOD’S WORD: THE KEY TO PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION
The word of God has power to transform lives (Romans 12:2). The evidence of transformation is a glaring change from what and who we used to be that has given way to a brand new person. To achieve this, we need a force that can work in our minds to renew our thoughts and align us with the right perspective of God’s will. As we constantly renew our mind through God’s word, we are transformed. Both our conscious and subconscious will be purged of negativities. We will develop a sound mind that can prove that which is good, acceptable and perfect will of God. This will enable us have right attitude and right living to enjoy God’s best for our lives.
GOD’S WORD: THE FAITH BUILDER
The great man of God, T.L Osborn once said, “Faith is your aspiration turned Godward.” It is your discovery of His promises based on His ability and your conviction to receive them from Him. It is simply: God said it; I believe it and it is mine. That is, what God said and your agreement to make it yours. Therefore, faith always lingers on what God said.
Faith is a product of revelation that is generated through the word of God. It is not what you wish or think you can do, rather, it is what has been revealed to you by the word. Therefore, faith is not learned but caught through revelation.
The scriptures says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). I want you to take note of the word “comes,” that is, faith must enters into you (by the word of God) before it will go out from you as your conviction in God’s ability to perform His word. To always experience triumphant living requires faith in God. Then, this faith comes by hearing God’s word. So to build your faith, immerse yourself inside God’s word. Let it dwell in you and you will begin to grow in faith.
LET THE WORD ABIDE
IN YOU
As you live in Christ, let His word also live in you. When you do this, Jesus said you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you (John 15:7). Christ knows when His words abide in you; your life will be conformed to His image. You will be living right. Your faith will be strong in Him. And this will qualify you to receive whatever you desire from Him. As you can see, the word of God is very paramount to our triumphant living. It is the key to personal transformation. It is the faith builder and when you abide in it, whatever you desire from God in prayers will be done for you.
I encourage you to make God’s word abide in you. Let it be the regulator of your thoughts and decisions. Do not act outside its bound in all you do. To make God’s word abide in you is to give it a resident in you. It will build you up, make you grow and grant you victory over all challenges of life.
This is exactly the third step Temmy and Eliot took. They held unto God’s word in its entirety. Eventually, God honoured His word over their circumstances and they began to experience victory. I see you also taking charge over the negative circumstances and difficulties of your life in Jesus name.
