Achieving Mind Effectiveness: How to Keep Your Mind Renewed Always

“And be not conformed to the world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)

Someone once said, “The mind cannot reach for anything new, if it is still full of yesterday’s junks.” Renewal is not for slackers. It is a way to increase your capacity for effectiveness.

No one can grow more than the growth and the newness of his heart. Get the heart new and the man is new.

Renewal is determined and conscious effort to make something new and keep it new for effectiveness. It is process of restoration to freshness, newness, vigour and perfection.

Because the mind is the acting ruling part of the man, hence mind renewal is the conscious effort to rejuvenate and maintain the newness of the heart.

Anything that is exposed to usage is liable to getting worn out. An engine that is constantly in use requires adequate servicing to increase the capacity for its effectiveness without which it loses its potency and become useless.

A building, no matter how beautiful it looks, will become a shadow of itself except it is not constantly given touch of excellence to retain its newness.

The newness of the heart determines the quality of the man.

With the importance of the heart to total man, it is imperative that it is kept new on daily basis because man is constantly exposed to things that can weaken and weary his heart.

Requirements for Mind Renewal

Reflect on the Things of God

As a face reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real man ~Proverbs 27:19 NLT.

One of the arrows that the enemy shoot at man is the arrow of reflection. The heart has the capacity to bring to the present an event that has occurred long ago, words heard and pictures seen. It gives those things careful consideration which results in getting adhered to such things.  If what the heart is exposed to is evil, immorality and sinfulness, the heart takes after it.

On the other hand, if it is exposed to things that are godly and things that edifies, it becomes godly and can stand against the wiles of the enemy.

Whatever a man reflects on is what he becomes

Reflection can mean to copy, emulate, meditate, repeat or mirror something. Since we become what we reflect on, God has given us the guidelines on what we should constantly reflect and meditate on in order to keep our hearts rejuvenated and renewed on daily basis.

Philippians  4: 8, 9 reads: “… whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things”.

Rest in Christ

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything ~ Philippians. 4:6a Amplified

Another arrow that the enemy fires at the heart is the arrow of agitation. This makes the man with such a heart restless, disturbed and totally confused. God does not want the arrow of agitation to have effect on His children, so He said, be still and know that I am God, Psalm 46:10.

It is only when we have observed this instruction that God can be exalted among the earthen.

Review the Word

“Study this Book of instruction continually. Meditate on it night and day…” Joshua 1:8

The Word of God is unavoidable in getting the mind renewed because it is cleansing water ( Eph 5:26). To review is to view, gaze at or study something and doing it over and over again and again. The heart is constantly exposed to words of unbelief which weakens it, words or discouragement which blurs the vision but what of courage sharpens the heart and makes it more effective.

The world is filled with deadly words but the word of life is found in God. It is therefore a necessity to view and review the word of God on daily basis.

Release the Heart

God is the “Renewer”. There is nothing released to Him that He cannot make new. When the blind eyes were released to Him, sight was regained, leprosy skin that was released to Him becomes new and lives released to Him was restored. He has the master plan of every life in His care and always make it new if released to Him.

To reach for the new things, new hope and newness of life keep renewing your mind.
