Preaching For Transformation

Posted on Posted in Ministry/Church
“A good sermon is not like a club that beats upon the will but like a sword that cuts to the heart.”

My heart bleeds each time I hear the kinds of preachings that flow out of many pulpits today. It’s quite disheartening that many preachers of today don’t know the power of a pulpit.

Little did we know that a pulpit is where the destiny of multitudes are shaped every time a preacher stands there.

Preaching has power to influence.

It can influence an individual, a family, organization, community, government, and national landscape.

But how much of the preachings today bring the expected transformations?

Many preachers, little transformation is the order of the present day Church!

Should Church not wake up to the reality that it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe { 1 Corinthians 1:21}?

God has chosen to manifest His Word through preaching and that’s why it’s a commitment from God to us in form of commandment { Titus 1:3}.

So preachers are agents of transformation.

We have the message of transformation that the entire world needs. Hallelujah! { Acts 28:31}.

Then, how can preachers preach beyond mere information and exclamation?

To preach for transformation will require obedience to the following amongst other things.

1. PREACH THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Every preaching that brings transformation reveals the need for the dominion of God to take place in the hearts of men {Luke 9:60}. So preachers have the responsibility to help people come under the kingdom of God as the answer to the misery and woes of this present age.

2. PREACH CHANGE

Preaching that brings transformation demands for change of mind from people which is another word for repentance {Matthew 4:17}. When Jesus began to preach, He requested people to change their minds so that they can have a change of life.

3. PREACH REVELATION OF CHRIST

Jesus commanded His disciples to speak in light what they were told in darkness {Matthew 10:27}. In other words, if nothing has been revealed to you in the secret place of prayer, study, and meditation ~ you cannot reveal what will bring transformation to the people. It takes revelation of the Word for people to experience elevation in their world.

4. PREACH WHAT YOU HEARD FROM THE LORD

Matthew 10:27b says, what you hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. So preaching can only be transformational when it comes from a preacher who also hear from God. Do you hear from God or man?

5. PREACH TO BOTH THE POOR AND THE RICH

Both the rich and the poor must be blessed by your preaching always. Don’t ever be carried away by the rich and ignore the poor. In fact, evidence of the transformation that preaching brings get spreaded among the poor than the rich. But the thumb rule is: the balanced diet of the gospel must be served to everybody.

6. PREACH THE WORD ~ Not news, tales, psychology or human philosophy {2 Timothy 4:2}.

7. PREACH WHETHER IT IS COVENIENT FOR YOU OR NOT

Preaching is an obligation. The necessity is laid upon you. Preaching is not about how you feel and when you feel like doing it, but what you must do by trusting the Holy Spirit always for enablement.

8. PREACH JESUS, NOT YOURSELF

Preaching that brings transformation promotes Jesus not the preacher {Mark 1:7}. It is only when Jesus is lifted up that He promised to draw all men unto Him {John 12:32}. So preach Jesus, His resurrection power, His cross, love and grace. You have been appointed a preacher to present Jesus to people every time you appear before the people. And when you present Jesus, expects transformation to take place in those that will receive Him.

May you not fail in this glorious duty.

May the Lord bless all preachers who will heed the truth of His Word and be counted worthy to be an agent of transformation in Jesus name.

The problem is that: a sermon may have all these features, but since these days people have itchy ears, transformative sermons may not pierce their heart; since they are looking for something that will scratch their itchy ears.

True. We only have to do what the Lord expects from us and commit the hearts of the people to the Lord in prayers, trusting the Holy Spirit to do the rest. Really appreciate your comment, Caleb Katwal.
